Du Bois joins the NAACP
Du Bois's Niagara Movement had the dedication and fire, but not the resources to effect change. The 1908 Springfield race riot galvanized some of the better off white liberals to feel that they must change from Booker T. Washington's accomodationist agenda. They met with leading African Americans and out of this coalition came the NAACP. W.E.B. Du Bois saw the new association as a chance to do something against racial hatred.
